introversion and extroversion is only about whether someone ‘recharges their battery’ by being alone or by being with others

Yeah it’s really annoying that people have taken introvert to mean “ultra shy anxious person who hates talking to people” and extroverts to be either “everyone else” or “walks into a room and instantly is friends with everyone, has all their phone numbers, and just finished planning their 5 years of friendship party with them all.” Because people forget that it just differentiates how you recharge your social battery, they often forget that extroverts with social anxiety can and do exist. In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if a lot of “introverts” are actually just socially anxious extroverts that are suffering bc they don’t really part of why they feel so shit is bc they want to socialize more

agree with all that! I was gonna say more, along your lines, but ended up keeping it short.

but yeah there are confident, outgoing introverts as well as shy, anxious extroverts. and everything in between.

a social introvert will be exhausted after the event while an asocial extrovert will be exhausted by solitude

I’m like that with insecurity and a lack of shyness: my insecurity does not prevent me from blurting out weird shit that will only make me feel more anxious.

Not really, no. Shyness is more akin to anxiety, and not engaging in conversations doesn’t automatically mean it’s an anxious behavior.

Introverts aren’t the way they are because they’re shy or have anxiety about participating in social situations. That’s just social anxiety, and introversion and social anxiety are not mutually inclusive.

This person really just seems like they’re fairly in the middle of the introvert/extravert spectrum.
