Fake radical honesty: when a dishonest person self-discloses taboo or undesirable things about themselves, but then omits the worst thing or things. They make themselves look honest and they’re not. This nasty trick ruined my life once. It occurs to me that this ploy may have been used to cover up the miricult scandal (https://archive.is/miricult.com) after a discussion with someone about what happened. A friend said something like that they’d looked into this and the people involved confessed, but only one minor was molested. For some reason this resulted in increased trust. It should not have. Have you seen fake radical honesty anywhere?
For someone not steeped into the lore, why is this important?
She killed herself over EA sexual abuse. EA did massive damage control over this (including some defenses from Scott which as a professional he simply should have said because it spread typical myths about fake accusations/people in situations like this). Lot of people were hurt, disregarded and treated horribly. She wasn’t the only one suffering from abuse (PolyamorousNephandus on reddit also spoke openly and a lot about abuse suffered by her). Try searching the reddit sneerclub archives for more. It is, due to the subject matter a subject we should be careful and serious about however. EA seems to have added procedures and people to adres stuff like this after everything but not sure if LW did for example. Also due to only looking at it from the outside I have no idea if this helped or if a whisper network is still the best defense people have. (This article from 2023 (for which PolyamorousNephandus said she was interviewed, which is how I found it) does not fill me with much hope).
