unfortunately Trumpism seems to be accelerating in the UK. Farage wiped the floor with the other parties in the latest local elections

I think that’s less about Trumpism i’m more about the labour party failing to differentiate themselves from the conservatives

it’s not like those disenfranchised voters don’t have anywhere else to go. the lib dems and greens and independents exist. they’re flocking to foghorn because they like his message and he “telz it lyk wot it iz”

Well, two data points as examples… And the afd not getting a majority is good, but looking at how many seats they got it’s not at all a win for common sense.

Next election many of the old generations who voted for cdu and such will be gone and then it will depend on the TikTok and media manipulated freshlings so Germany will be in for a ride.

The article is more tendency and hope than measurable fact as I see it.

What’s more, the AfD clientele is probably either not interested in foreign policy at all or so deep in their world of misinformation that they don’t even know how disastrous Trump’s policies in the US are.

Even if they did know, they probably wouldn’t want to believe that it will be the same fatal mix of blatant incompetence and outright corruption with the AfD if they ever come to power.

I think these voters are so delusional that they have to experience the catastrophe first-hand to realize that they have been deceived - and even then, some still don’t want to believe it.

I don’t think we are safe and we probably never will be.

Likely 6, given just how badly the LNP got beat - it’s going to take them a long time to rebuild.

Gives me some hope that the Future Made in Australia project gets far enough along that it secures its own future, lest it get molested during adolescence like the NBN did.

In an upset similar to Canada’s recent election, Australia voted for the incumbent Labor party against the Trump-like right-winger who led the polls in the run-up to Election Day.

I don’t think that this is a fair assessment of what has happened in Australia.

The “Trump-like right-winger” is Peter Dutton and he was from the “Liberal” (our centre right) party. His party got slaughtered.

There’s a lot of commentary from his own party members. Pointing to “the trump effect” would be the easy way out, but none of them (not one that I’ve seen) have cited that as a reason for what happened. They’re saying that Dutton himself was not popular, and that they really didn’t have any policies to appeal to voters, and that their campaign was terribly managed, and that their voting base (boomers) are dying off. All of which is demonstrably true.

Trump didn’t help. Musk didn’t help. Dutton didn’t help with the Trump-like language. However, Labor won because Albo is a good PM and ran a great campaign. They would’ve won without the US shit show going on.

That’s what I’m hoping for. We have a presidential election next week in Poland. The leftists have no chance, but I hope we’ll at least get a centrist.
