You know how you go to your favorite bar, your local bartender isn’t there.

You ask, “Where’s Stamets?”

“Stamet’s no longer works here. I’m ummthatguy.”

And you’re thinking “Hey who’s this idiot? I like Stamets.”

But you still want your drink. And even though ummthatguy doesn’t mix your drink the same way you’re used to, like Stamets, you still like the bar. You don’t have to go to a different bar. And even ummthatguy might feel kinda bad because Stamets trained him. Stamets showed him how to work the cash register, where the tonic was on the soda gun, who tips, who doesn’t.

Stamets is the SNL Weekend Update Norm Macdonald to my Colin Quinn.

Aw man, that is too bad.

I hope wherever he is he finds some peace and feels better. It is a rough time out there, I hope my sending positive vibes finds him, even if it isn’t much.

For whatever it’s worth, this place has been a massive place of comfort for me and that is in a large part because of them. I went through the shit for most of last year and had some breakdowns and this community really helped.

And you too ummthatguy, you’re awesome and you’ve made me laugh so many times. I couldn’t think of a better member of the community to help mod it, thanks for all you do.

@ummthatguy@lemmy.world isn’t entirely wrong. I’ve been dealing with some shit for the better part of the last year. It is also my birthday in a few days and while that’s a celebration for other people, it’s a severe stressor for me thanks to some past trauma. I overreacted. That’s why I deleted the leaving post. I’ll probably be back. Might be a couple weeks. Might be a month or two. I don’t know. I’m just struggling and adding in the extra stress of Lemmy is a straw I just can’t handle.

Not likely I’ll come back in a moderator capacity unless directly asked. There’s no reason for me to be on the team. Everything runs smoothly and sufficiently without me and I’m not egotistical enough to be like “I WANT THAT GREEN M NEXT TO MY NAME AGAIN”.

Hope that helps to you, @Kolanaki@pawb.social and @OpenStars@piefed.social

Thank you for thinking of us - you rock dude!

I am both sad to see you take time away, combined with very happy that you are doing precisely that, bc it will help provide what you need and it’s great to see you be proactive like that. Be well my dude!:-) 😎 💪 And then enjoy coming to Lemmy again (naw, fuck Lemmy, I mean Ten Forward!) instead of dreading it :-).

      They will be missed.

And don’t diminish your own contribution to our little hub.

How far we’ve all come. Hell, you even stopped calling me Kevin.

Wait… is it “they” or “he”? I thought Stamets self identified as a gay man? Have I been doing it wrong by saying “he”? It’s fine if you are just aiming for generic, I’m just focused here on if my usage was wrong, but if both are acceptable then that’s cool too, I just wanted to confirm.:-)

I was being generic. My policy is to abide by Bill & Ted’s Law: Be excellent to each other.

This extends to include minding chosen pronouns. That aside, I find it acceptable to use they/them/dude/guys as terms that cover whoever, per context.
