    It’s both.

    The upper class doesn’t get all that power from nowhere. They get it from stupid people who refuse to listen to any kind of reason. Those people are just as much to blame.

      They actually get power from owning everything and a stupidly powerful domestic standing army known as the police

      That’s not really accurate. The issue isn’t with individuals, but the system itself. In Capitalist countries, owners of Capital regularly express domination over media and financial/heavy industry, and therefore bend public opinion and the state in their favor. It isn’t about individually stupid people, but a system that has settled on the most effective ways for the ruling class to maintain power.
