The radiation-hardened technology will get its first test in an upcoming mission to the lunar south pole.

Not everyone is happy with this vision. LTE networks usually operate between 700 MHz and 2.6 GHz, a region of the radiofrequency spectrum that partially overlaps with frequencies reserved for radio astronomy. Having such radio signals coming from the moon could potentially interfere with observations.

Commercial space flight doesn’t give a fuck about astronomers, just ask StarLink.

Funny thing, it’s just a box full of Nokia 3110’s. The batteries last just fine all the way through the lunar night.

You could just be kind and everything would be fine

People assume everyone can read every tone until someone suddenly doesn’t

It’s gonna be okay, really. What’s the worst that can happen with a not-even-mandatory tone tag?

Edit: Never mind, judging by your comment history you are obsessively toxic, going to just block.

There’s been some great microsats built around cell phones.

              https://space.skyrocket.de/doc_sdat/phonesat-v1.htm

They’re just computers with batteries, sensors, and radios. The rigors of space are the real issue, but their functionality is spot on for the needs onboard satellites. Using one as a base station for communications would be an option too.

Its good to get down to business on social media now that we are on lemmy. No more being distracted by fun, and no more being slowed down by considering the person behind the comment.

NASA’s Artemis program calls for bringing the astronauts back to the moon as early as 2028 and further expanding that presence into a permanent habitat in 2030s

Can’t believe it’s taking this long to get a moon base, but by god, any news on this front is good news!
