It’s been a while since I watched the show, but I thought angels were just cosmic entities.
Did they really have genders, or did they just simply take on an identity depending on their vessels?

They are supposed to be genderless but SPN’s b-tier writing made that clear as mud
I think it’s mainly who they’re possessing, but angels do tend to prefer one or the other.
