The insistence on replicating analog tactics in digital trenches reeks of generational malpractice. MAGA’s meme-to-mobilization pipelines operate at machine speed because they weaponize platforms as force multipliers—not bulletin boards.

Decentralization without sovereignty is performance art. Hosting a Matrix server on AWS is just outsourcing your gallows to Amazon. FOSS stacks mean nothing if they’re dangling from Big Tech’s root certificates.

The left’s allergy to infrastructure is suicide. Signal won’t save you when carrier-level packet inspection flags encrypted traffic. Mesh networks require physical nodes—not Discord LARPers. Build air-gapped repos, deploy sneakernet dead drops, or admit you’re roleplaying cyberpunk while authoritarians rewrite the OS.

Sure, kiddo. Here’s the sandbox version:

        1. Copy-pasting old tricks into new tech is like trying to use crayons on a touchscreen. The bad guys are turbocharging their ideas with algorithms, not posters on a wall.

        2. Owning your tools matters. If you build a treehouse in someone else’s yard, they can kick you out anytime. Same with hosting your stuff on Big Tech’s servers—they hold the keys.

        3. Infrastructure is the backbone. Apps like Signal are great until the internet cops start sniffing your traffic. Real independence means building networks and tools that don’t rely on corporate overlords or fairy dust.

Now go build something real, not just shiny toys.

Corporate dissent via reaction GIF is the digital equivalent of shouting into a pillow. Authoritarians don’t pause their power grabs to shitpost—they weaponize infrastructure while we’re busy curating the perfect skeptical nod animation.

MAGA’s not dissecting your tone—they’re seizing DNS roots. The left’s meta-commentary addiction is just another form of surrender. Build the goddamn encrypted networks or keep roleplaying as Cassandras with iMessage.

I find it weird when people suggest Discord or Microblogging as an alternative.

It’s such a different format, and it fits a different purpose. I’m on Discord and Mastodon, but I wouldn’t try and recreate a subreddit/lemmy community on either of those places

People don’t want community. They are fine with scrolling through mind-numbing, recycled content. Reddit has realized years ago that human contributors just create problems, and can easily be replaced by bots, and you still make a billion USD

I am on Mastodon and use it somewhat regularly (mainly out of interest for/to support the fediverse), but I still don’t quite “get” it. If I want to fill my feed, I can follow users or hashtags. But following users is weird to me because some of their posts might be interesting to me, but then they post about their breakfast or some random topic I don’t care about.

Hashtags are a bit better, but e.g. I follow #berlin, and of course while there’s lots of news, info and discussion about the city, I also get many posts e.g. of travellers saying they just arrived in the city or other random stuff.

I guess it’s just how microblogging works (never used Twitter so this is my first experience with it), but for me it’s all a bit too unfocused. It’s probably just a personality thing though.

I mean yeah, what you described is basically twitter, I never got it either. Especially because it came about at a time when Facebook was on top, and you could do all that + have pictures and videos in your profile instead of just the feed - and it had a much larger word limit as well. Twitter has confused since its inception.

I felt the exact same sentiment. Not being able to sort my feed based on “most likes” or “most reposts” didn’t make sense to me. I wanna see top quality content first, not just some rando’s thoughts at the exact moment that I’m online.

Like, it was fine, but it didn’t quite hit the spot.

For real. It’s weird how common this sentiment is. That one should move to Bsky or Mastodon instead.

I feel like Mastodon is just more well known than Lemmy, which makes sense based on the two userbases

Organizing the resistance on Reddit is akin to pinning the Anti-Hitler League’s bulletin on the Gestapo’s corkboard.

It’s still a way to increase awareness about Lemmy by talking directly to the subreddits users.

What alternative do you have? Press coverage would be nice, but it’s probably not going to happen for the time being

Edit: misread your comment, I didn’t realize you were talking about the topic of that specific sub

Reddit is part of the crypto-fascist Big Tech collective, is what I meant (come to think of it, less and less crypto- and more and more openly fascist now…) Organizing anything on Reddit - or Facebook, Whatsapp, or any traditional social media platform - is unsafe. But using it to rally the troops elsewhere is fine.

I really hope some people realize the nature of the place they’re on. It’s probably not healthy to let corporate admins or algorithms/bots manipulate you, why you’re trying to organize resistance against big tech itself, amongst other things.

And it comes to no surprise to me. The last very obvious event was in 2023, when Reddit showed how they treat users and moderators. And the subs had to submit to the new rules. Or when they kept protesting, their place got messed with by the admins, and the moderators got replaced by people who where more in line with the administration. Now tell me, how isn’t that eerily similar to how the USA gets hollowed out by Musk and his henchmen? Why on earth would people gather on Reddit (of all places) to protest this? Their own communication platform is doing exactly what they’re opposed to. And it’s very clear at least since one and a half years ago.

I’d say they’re about to get defeated if they don’t act now. They’ve had their wake up calls, and slept through them. And it’s like noon by now. At some point you don’t need to bother calling yourself resistance and just sleep until the proper showdown. But it’s not their fault. This is a big salami swindle. Slice after slice of freedom gets taken away and the bad thing is, you don’t even notice the singular slices. At some point the salami is just gone, unless you really paid attention. And at that point, there isn’t anything to recover. So it’s the job of the resistance to be ahead of their game and become active in time.

(They got played. And their landlord is wearing a large hoodie with “I’m one of the salami thieves” on it, has a key to their home and they’ve regularly spotted him coming in and taking things out of the kitchen…)

This community isn’t about drama, it’s about opportunities to promote Lemmy to people who might be interested.

And the thing is that most of these people are on Reddit
