This version addresses a bug introduced in a previous version. It prevented the preloading of content, causing images and links to appear after the content was already displayed. This resulted in poor performance while scrolling.
Action menus have been revamped with a grouped layout on compatible devices, and actions have been reorganized to ensure uniformity throughout the application.
In addition, the media viewer now enables users to select text in images, choose image subjects for stickers, and search for information on various topics such as animals, plants, and locations.
Full Changelog
- Added support for selecting text and image subjects from the media viewer
- Fixed an issue preventing prefetching optimizations from working. This resulted in a lot of media and link previews loading in after posts have already been displayed.
- Updated action menus with support for inline actions (requires iOS 16+)
- Updated action menu icons and order for consistency

Hello! Just downloaded Arctic and enjoying it so far. Is there a “hide read posts” button option somewhere, and if not, are there plans to add one?
Thanks!
I’m glad to hear that you’re enjoying Arctic so far!
In the Content Settings section, you’ll find two options for hiding read posts:
- Content -> Hide Read Posts
- Content -> Hide Read Post In Communities
These settings are global for Arctic. However, I’m considering adding a quick toggle in post feeds to change these settings in individual feeds. If I recall correctly, I didn’t include a quick toggle initially due to an issue I encountered, but I’ll revisit it.
Recently, Lemmy added a new feature in version 0.19.6 that enables toggling this setting for individual feeds. I’ll look into integrating that as well, but I’d like to ensure compatibility with older Lemmy versions.
An update on this, I’ve added a Show / Hide Read action to the post feed action menu. Now, you can quickly toggle this setting for individual feeds. This is an override for the global settings and will be discarded when you leave the feed.
Thank you for the quick reply, that’s awesome!! It’s great to talk to such a responsive developer.
I’m not super savvy on the workflow, is this sent over to the test flight version? If so, how long until I can expect it to be pushed to live?
My pleasure! I had hoped to release the update yesterday, but I didn’t quite finish it. This particular feature is complete, but I have a few other features in the works that aren’t quite ready yet. However, I should be able to release the update on TestFlight tonight.
This will be the first TestFlight release after the last AppStore release. Therefore, the update will undergo the Apple review process before it goes live on TestFlight. Consequently, it’s likely that the update will be released on Friday or Saturday.
