some people misinterpret “freedom of speech” meaning universal freedom of speech. all it mandates is that the government isn’t going to punish you for saying shit. It does not protect a person if other people punish them for saying shit.

Another way to say that is: Freedom of speech isn’t freedom from consequences your speech elicits in others.
