Trump was elected. This isn’t what I wanted, but I’m trying to stay positive and not worry so much. The people have the power to make choices and work and campaign and support what they believe in and I for one want to take advantage of that. I want to help those that will be affected in the coming years and stand for what I believe is right. What resources, campaigns, protests, anything should I and others be aware of? What can we do to make the change we want to see?

Don’t bank on that being the case. American democracy is literally dead as of today. The president elect is a felon with an IQ lower than his age, we’re cooked.

It’s totally the case. The people did work and campaign and support what they believe in. They did make a choice.

      They chose fascism.

And his VP is a literal Theocratic White Nationalist, commonly referred to as a Christofascist.

This is dangerously wrong. Any person can have a huge impact on their own community without changing countrywide politics. It is super important that caring USians start contributing to their communities and help the people that are more at risk of being wrongly prosecuted for living their life. Please volunteer at mutual aid programs, please protest against genocide, please educate the people around you, please make sure trans and queer people are safe, please speak out about racism. And when you witness a nazi victimising someone based on their identity/race/disability/etc, please act and don’t look away.

Telling people that ‘change is hopeless’ only endangers vulnerable groups more.

      This doesn’t really make sense.

He has won because more people voted for him in a democratic election. That’s literally democracy in action.

You might not like the result (it’s frankly bizarre from an outsider’s POV), but that doesn’t mean “democracy is dead”.

They’re referring to the literal campaign strategy / platform he ran on which includes such fascist rhetoric as deporting 20m immigrants (when there’s at most 13-15m by most estimates, every single one of which helps the economy and is not a burden in any way) and “it’s the last election you’ll need to vote in”, as just a sample. Oh and don’t forget “I’ll only be dictator for one day” as a bonus, a treat. That’s what people mean when they say democracy is dead.

In 2016 he was going to build wall . He didn’t. He played golf, and tried to real estate deals with foreign leaders .

          The histrionics today are embarrassing.

It isn’t about trump. He’s just the frontman for a larger fascist movement, who now have the House, Congress, Supreme Court, and have infiltrated the legislature at the state level. They will enact Project 2025 and all they need from trump are rubber stamps between rounds of golf.

The whole reason they chose him was because he’s practically illiterate and insanely easy to manipulate. He doesn’t need to do anything except put his signature on whatever shit they put in front of him. And they have a comprehensive plan to dismantle democracy this time.

              Same as 2016.

It isn’t the same. For one, the Supreme Court ruled only this year the the president has nearly king-like powers and immunity – which was only made possible because of the far-right justices he appointed (put forward by the Federalist Society and Heritage Foundation, who are also behind Project 2025), and he’ll get to appoint two more, bringing the balance from 5-4 to 7-2. That will give him literally unchecked power, which he didn’t have last time.

Have you read Project 2025? If not, you should. They learned a lot from the limitations they faced in 2016, and have worked this whole time to make sure they will have free reign this time.

He did build a wall! Started anyway. He didn’t finish it. Biden kept adding to it. He didn’t finish it either. It’s a long border.

          “Known bullshitter spreads bullshit”.

He said all this kind of nonsense the last time he ran. He’s just a stereotypical “big man” who just says any old shit for attention.

In a democracy it is possible to democratically elect an anti-democratic leader. It’s one of the ironies and paradoxes of democratic political systems. I think if you study history some more the world should start making more sense for you.

Thank you for being patronising, I understand it perfectly well.

I’m sorry you feel patronized, that wasn’t my intent. It seemed like you were just really ignorant, I didn’t realize you were pretending not to understand. Now I don’t understand how you pretending to be ignorant brings a semblance of reality to anything, that seems very counterintuitive to me.
