From s3e1 “Basics part 2” where Seska had control of the ship. She, and presumably the costume department, thought it looked better on her right with her holding the baby on her left.

You can see the Doctor’s on the correct side.

Okay, compared to the Bajoran we had prior to VOY, Seska’s makeup looked super fake. I’m starting to feel like maybe that was on purpose. Maybe it wasn’t but it feels like it was.

I think that happened because it would feel really odd to see someone holding a baby to the right. Many people have held babies and for some reason it is almost instinctual to hold them with the head to the left side. It’s kinda weird in a way, but if you pick up a baby odds are you’re going to try to hold it that way and that spreads across all humanity.

Yeah, that tracks. A max estimate of 10% of people are left handed. So, for most it’d feel weird.

The constant is that you’re inclined to put the baby’s head on your opposing arm so your dominate hand is free, whichever side that is.

Reserve the word weird for things other than what you personally aren’t used to.

                shrug

I don’t think your comment was that bad. I’m just noticing how in recent years I’ve come across many instances where being left handed is seen as strange or disappointing or even tied to a disorder.

It feels like social regression when one of the few minority groups that was socially acceptable when I grew up is now getting regarded as less acceptable for some reason.

I think that’s just because most people are right-handed, so they hold the baby with their left to free up their good hand.
