    I wonder why this is controversial or such a big deal with the buses. Other towns have had pedestrianised high streets for decades and function perfectly well (and are nice places to be)

    There needs to be more talk about how car infrastructure has a detrimental effect on the character of town centres.

      The cafes and bars at the end of my local high street moaned quite a lot, in the local paper too, about part of their end being closed off to vehicles when it was first introduced

      When it ended, they were asking for it to be made indefinite. Worked out way better for everyone.
