It’s never come up before. Though in practice given the rules everyone would know they are in practice voting for the named VP elect rather than the president. In a lot of those other cases it was people voting for a special election, which wouldn’t happen in the presidential race.
Kind of a moot point since if you nominate a corpse you lose the election.
