On the world called Hyperion, beyond the reach of galactic law, waits a creature called the Shrike. There are those who worship it. There are those who fear it. And there are those who have vowed to destroy it. In the Valley of the Time Tombs, where huge, brooding structures move backward through time, the Shrike waits for them all. On the eve of Armageddon, with the entire galaxy at war, seven pilgrims set forth on a final voyage to Hyperion seeking the answers to the unsolved riddles of their lives. Each carries a desperate hope—and a terrible secret. And one may hold the fate of humanity in his hands.

That’s book is a must for any sci-fi fan!

The writing style is often considered hard: names are dropped with no explanation and the reader needs to understand them by context.

The plot is magnificent, structured like the Canterbury tales, each tale is presented by one of the pilgrims. Each take has a different “voice” and style, and belongs to different genres: from political intrigue to cyberpunk, passing by cursed love story and many others.

    I wholeheartedly recommend!

The second one didn’t hit as much, so I never got to Endymion. Maybe I should give it another shot, since my English has improved in the last years.
