I would agree with you if they were just a regular small phone design company, but the way things are going they are one bad device away from going out of business and even without that their support for older phones has been spotty at best, and I say that as a Fairphone owner.

It would be much more credible if they continued selling it. Stopping to sell it basically means they have a small stock of spare parts left and the commonly replaced parts like batteries and usb ports will probably going to be difficult to get soon.

It was a side grade performance wise, but they removed useful features like display out and usb3. Only the battery in the FP6 is slightly larger, but at the disadvantage of coming in a custom housing with makes it harder to replace.

If they can only make money by releasing new phones, there is no business incentive for them to keep selling and supporting the older models beyond the bare minimum. In fact this is already happening with the FP5 being discontinued a mere 2-3 years after release despite being better than the FP6 in many ways.

Dunno, their financials seem shakey if you look at them multi-year. It seems to always jump in the first year they release a new model and then dips into the negative again.

This might be ok for a normal botique mobile phone producer, but it really disincentives them from their core mission of sustainable and long lasting phones that don’t need replacement every 2 years.

Piefed does that partially. It also aggregates votes to send them in batches which is apparently saving server resources, but sadly it only works between Piefed instances and not with Lemmy.

That must have been a severly misconfigured server then. Normally history is stored on the server and synced on demand via MAM.

Of course with modern e2ee you can’t actually decrypt old history on new devices, but that is an intentional feature with PFS.

Xmpp has no marketing budget and a lot of people just decided it is old and always share bad experiences with it from 15 years ago 🤷

If you can find interesting articles to post in that comm, that’s also good.

But usually our comms don’t need that much active moderation. It is more about keeping an eye on the posts and having multiple mods in case one of the others is on holiday or so.

Well, this is kind of work in progress for XMPP and DeltaChat doesn’t support it. But you can for example try out https://movim.eu/ which is a webbased xmpp client (with PWA app) which does support screensharing in small group calls.

But they got a major early investment in 2018 from Status, a cryptocurrency/web3 company, and later in 2021 an even bigger one in relation to Protocol Labs, who peddle their own cryptocurrency.

But personally I would not recommend Stout either as it is not a serious project nor does it federate. Maybe look into XMPP or DeltaChat.

You must have used a very outdated client (like Pidgin) because history is syncronized via the server reliably since 10+ years on xmpp with clients that support the MAM standard.

Well, the neighbourhood is even worse…

The servers are great, but the currently available clients are only great for non-corporate usecases IMHO.

Xmpp works great for 1:1 chats and small private groups, but there isn’t really an enterprise team chat client for it. Recently some promising projects came up trying to change that, but they are still too new to be serious contenders for that usecase specifically. Maybe in 1-2 years the situation will be different.

Language specific communities are definitly ok, but are probably also better found on an instance that is primarily that language. Maybe once we switch to Piefed it becomes a bit more realistic with the LibreTranslate integration that it has.

I mean good that you are interested in hosting a proxy, but Nginx Proxy Manager hides away a lot of features and is probably not such a good idea to use when you want to run more complex and security relevant apps like a Signal proxy.

I know this is a bit annoying as an answer, but learning a bit of regular Nginx is probably the better idea in the long run as you usually outgrow NPM quickly.

Schwer zu sagen. Als ich noch viel beruflich gereist bin hatte ich wenig Probleme damit, aber lange ermüdende Flugreisen und Jetlag sind zusätzliche Faktoren die es schwer machen das Objektiv einzeln zu betrachten.

Was es auf jeden Fall gibt ist ein allgemeiner Erschöpfungszustand der es möglich macht egal wo zu schlafen. Ist dann aber schwer nicht fast im Stehen wegzunicken.
