Haha no the prongs of the first one looks good. But the handle looks too thin for my big hands. That thick fork looks like a nightmare, though.

Personally I don’t like that handle either. Needs to be thicker.
Dave@lemmy.nzMto Aotearoa / New Zealand@lemmy.nz•What are some good independent news outlets from New Zealand?9·16 hours agoIt depends on exactly what you mean by independent.
I like https://rnz.co.nz/, but this is a government news source. It has editorial independence and doesn’t have adverts so you know they aren’t considering advertisors in their angles, but it is government owned, and has been threatened with having funding cut on occasion.
https://stuff.co.nz/ I believe is currently independently owned but it was owned by a big Aussie company until it wasn’t doing well and the local CEO bought it for a token $1.
If you want a more Left leaning, non-mainstream source, then thespinoff.co.nz
There aren’t many other sources I’d read, but others may chime in with others I’ve forgotten.
Its nice to think of us as a strong democracy but we have the same influences as the rest of the western world, so even if we have a nice voting system you could argue it’s not a good democracy if everyone is manipulated by big tech and billionaires.
Edit: oh, I forgot to mention a lot of syndication happens, so it’s common to see articles from one NZ news source on another news site.
Connections Puzzle #685 🟨🟨🟨🟨 🟩🟩🟩🟩 🟪🟪🟪🟪 🟦🟦🟦🟦
There’s a whole Wikipedia page about it. But here is the important bit:
In the past, caller ID spoofing required an advanced knowledge of telephony equipment that could be quite expensive. However, with open source software (such as Asterisk or FreeSWITCH, and almost any VoIP company), one can spoof calls with minimal costs and effort.
Some VoIP providers allow the user to configure their displayed number as part of the configuration page on the provider’s web interface. No additional software is required.
So it’s pretty trivial these days because the phone number coming from the phone network doesn’t help when the phone network lets you set whatever you like.
Unfortunately the calling party can show whatever they want for the caller number, there’s no validation that it’s true.

But it seems no one is even thinking about it yet (and it might need the “pest” label before anyone puts money into control).
I like the implication that the AI screening saw “vengeance” and decided they were worthy for short listing.
I like the implication that the interviewer saw it in the job application and decided to invite them to a formal interview before even mentioning it.

Dave@lemmy.nzto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•California Is About To Run Out of License Plate Numbers1·4 days agoCurrently there is a system. One number, three letters, three numbers. So no chance of mixing up certain characters. If you introduce a different system you will need to make sure you know what system is being used. With your plan you could get a plate that looks exactly like the old system except it’s using 0 instead of O.
I suspect there is also a lot of benefit in knowing where numbers and letters will be for having more accurate plate recognition cameras.
Dave@lemmy.nzto Mildly Interesting@lemmy.world•California Is About To Run Out of License Plate Numbers1·5 days agoThe issue is probably that those I, O, Z, and Ss are already on plates since the system is different?

Amazing show, Jon Toogood was hanging off the mezzanine playing guitar, after climbing up a stack of speakers. I agree, they really give it their all.
Dave@lemmy.nzto Houseplants@mander.xyz•Is onion grown near a Rhododendron dangerous?English11·5 days agoI’m no expert but as far as I can tell through searching around is that the concern of toxcicity is in the leaves and in particular the nectar. People don’t tend to eat the leaves but if the nectar is collected by bees for honey in large concentrations it can be poisonous.
Plants grown nearby have a risk of having toxins spread by bees who visit them after visiting the rhododendron. However this risk seems small and not something people seem concerned with. rhotodendron poisoning cases seem to be almost exclusively from honey.
One thing pointed out a lot is that rhododendrons tend like very acidic soil, so other plants don’t often grow well near them. But if your plants are already grown then it doesn’t sound like there are any serious risks in eating the food.

I know the fish album well, but I have some favorites from many of their other albums as well.
Dave@lemmy.nzto Community Promo@lemmy.ca•Does anyone know of an active out of the loop community?2·6 days agoIf you’re looking for answers, then any post in a community with a good spread of subscribers will get noticed. It doesn’t need to be currently active.
Heaps of people browse All. And Lemmy is small enough that most of the time posts will get seen, the content doesn’t get buried particularly fast.

Their current pricing is based on negotiated prices, but if you said you were going to build 10,000 I’m sure they could reduce the cost some more using economies of scale.
With that said, the land is still expensive (and in many places still likely to cost as much as the house and possibly more). If we were gonna build in bulk, we would probably want to fit more houses in. Ultimately these are still standalone houses, and you could probably get a cheaper overall cost by building medium density two story terraced housing to really cut down on that land cost.

We’ve only had it through the summer so I’m curious what the winter will be like.
We get 20c per KWh at a fixed rate, which is much better than some companies that do 10c or less or some don’t pay you at all. We are with SolarEdge, a specialist electricity company that only work with people who have solar or other renewable power (e.g. wind). Apparently they can’t do it in all areas, though.
All in all it will be interesting to pull out a spread sheet after a year and try to work out whether it’s been financially worth it.
Just reading your comment gave me arthritis.
