Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What are some happy moments of your childhood? Have you ever felt that happy again in adulthood? Ever tried "re-living" that moment later?
4·22 hours agoOh yes they had a Toys R Us in times Square. We actually went there that year we visited dad. We all had walky talkies with us from his work so we’re using them. A guy comes up and asks where the bathroom is.
“No idea?”
“But you work here!”
“No I don’t? I’m a kid?”
“Oh. But the walky talky-”
“Oh, no. Family has them”
He grunted and left lmao.

3·23 hours agoHiking the grand canyon was lovely. We sang we are climbing Jacob’s ladder while…hiking that portion of the trail. We were around six when we did this.
We visited dad at times Square while he worked on the nye ball drop, and got to see inside the the…command center. Small but neat.
I remember both family reunions, one on each side. One was in the middle of Montana and we drove over grandfather’s foot while using a little kid car thing. It stopped working and we popped the hood to figure out what was wrong like daddy did. The other was on long Island with so many people in a tiny house. Loved it. Warm and cozy.

8·1 day agoMaybe. I asked my mother who had been an educator for some fifty years, and she said she knew the method as whole word learning, and hated it. She taught in special education and said most of her students were there because the method failed them. But learning and education changes every few years/decades so who knows what method will be deemed the best next and how it will fail some students as well.

History Memes@piefed.social•I know re-enacting history is a great way to teach it to kids, but maybe this was a little too far...
9·2 days agoWe read the book. I…don’t think my fellow students understood the impact it was meant to have. They joked most of the class.
I was never very good at customizing MySpace or Neopets either. They looked very boring for me XD

6·2 days agoHere I am, eating mostly chicken, and still riddled with anxiety.
Maybe I should eat just chicken 24/7…
Same with girls being autistic! “Only boys are autistic” was the refrain I heard as a fairly clearly autistic girl. Because I wasn’t allowed to get away with things, clearly I’m fine! Ignore the breakdowns over specific clothing, the overwhelming hatred of injustice, and a complete inability to understand social chores cues, totally fine!

Image of Scotty from Star Trek. Caption is saying “Starfleet captains are like children. They want everything right now and they want it their way. But the secret is only to give them what they need, not what they want.”

7·3 days agoSick again, and the insurance is going away so. Like.
Everything sucks quite a bit.
I’d have to look into if it’s legal here. If so, maybe I can add it to next year’s garden though.

Casual Conversation@piefed.social•So I was helping my maternal grandmother apply for retirement. The form asked if she has a disability. I asked my mother, and she got mad at me??? Apparantly its bad luck to talk about this... 🤷♂️
4·3 days agoDisabilities, the one group most people will join at some point in their lives either from age or accident but hate thinking about.
Good luck. I hope she gets all the help possible! Disabilities suck. Refusing to accept the reality of them is worse.

4·3 days agoThe only time I like a video walkthrough is for some visual based puzzles because screenshots aren’t always precise enough.
The other 99 percent? Screw that, gone a step by step guide damn it!
Thinking about Animal Crossing New Horizons while trying to listen to husband talk about Dwarf Fortress.
Sometimes I am worried I gave him a full time job by showing him that game!

4·5 days agoOh no it’s stuck in my head now!
I still hope one day I’ll wake up refreshed and not exhausted.
I like chili. It’s such a nice filling meal, specially with cornbread!
It’s certainly not good for a day to day, it wears off after like an hour or two. Weird to be given it for that.
