  • salutes this man

I don’t know if this man is able to check to see these comments. I hope he can. I have nothing but respect for you sir. I was born in 1983. I had learned about nazis in history class growing up. I was under the belief that I was so glad the concept had been defeated decades before I was even born.

I was relieved that my lifetime would never be oppressed by fascism.

And now I’m 41. This is where we are. You’re still with us, and I’m embarassed that your lifes work has come undone. I salute you sir. Thank you for defeating Hitler. Thank you for being on the right side of history. Thank you for everything. I’d like to reassure you that fascism cannot rise again. I’d LIKE to reassure you of that, but the truth is fascism can and will rise whenever society becomes complacent.

For anyone reading this on the right, who thinks in terms of “alpha male” and “beta male” philosophy, take a look at this man. He stood up agsinst bombs, tanks, landmines, torture, and anything else the most dominant army at the time threw at them. The nazis were strong, but our pure willpower not to let fascism win was stronger. Kill the fascists at any cost. It’s happened before, it’ll happen again. So if any trumpeteers want to know what an “alpha male” looks like? This is him. He has more balls on a casual tuesday afternoon than you do in your whole life combined.

Stood up to nazis, and now stands up to musk. Standing up to fascism is a never ending task, that you’ll still be doing at 98 years old. That being said, he IS still standing up to fascism at 98 years old.

    Thank you sir. For everything.

  • Here’s the weird thing. It doesn’t matter if I’m logged out or logged in. It’s not all of lemmy. It seems to be JUST lemmy.world.

I don’t have a lemm.ee account, but that one works fine. Whereas lemmy.world, even logged out is still a mess.

Now for the other weird bit. If I enable secret mode, the website works fine.

I’m thinking of downloading a new browser and seeing if that changes things.

  • I’ve literally heard for 15-20 years now that “This is the year of linux! It’s so much easier and better than windows!”

My response has been that if Linux ever had an interface that’s intuitive, and non-techies can take to instantly, Linux would actually grow. Their reply each time is that “Linux is getting more popular by the day!”. And that’s true. However, it’s a bit misleading. About a year ago I read that Linux was at the highest usage it’s ever had, at roughly 5% of the market.

Think about that. Linux has been around in some form since 1991, and it’s always been free (with a few exceptions). A free platform can’t compete against Apple, who’s notorious for being ungodly expensive, and Windows, who’s known for being costly in it’s own right, and also terribly optimized. Still running certain code in the background since windows 95. Yet Linux, as of a year ago cracked an all time high of 5%. Which may as well be a rounding error.

The ONLY reason I use linux as my daily driver, is because my other daily driver, which I haven’t booted in a few months, is Windows 7. And I’m not even worried about the security issues. It’s just gotten sluggish, and less and less things work on it over time. It’s easier to just use linux, as I mostly just use it as a means to open a browser anyways. My desktop looks more like Windows XP than linux. It just doesn’t act like Windows XP.

That’s what we need. A Linux distro that functions exactly like a modern day Windows XP. I think Windows XP couldn’t handle hard drives with more than 4TB. So, obviously that’s something a modern OS would fix. But the idea of just clicking .exe files, and installing them like on windows? That works for me. All the stuff Linux users hate about windows? If it were optimized and modernized, I’d take that over traditional Linux experiences.

But I will never use Windows 10 or especially 11. Fuck that.

  • No. Wile E Coyote still had dignity and little flashes of empathy. I remember one episode where we saw road runners wife, raising 3 road runner babies. He had put a falling boulder to crush them, thinking it was just the road runner.

Once he realized it was a mother and her children, he ran over, pushed them out of the way, and then got crushed by the boulder that he dropped. Just as the road runner ran by, kissed his 3 kids and wife and ran off.

If that were trump, he’d have had ICE seperate the mother from the children, deport the mother, and send the children to a camp.

Wile E Coyote came from a time of decency and respect towards women and children. Something trump lacks.

  • It makes me sad that you’re talking about our president, and you aren’t wrong.

When I was a kid, I remember the standard was that if you were really good in school, got perfect grades, and worked hard to achieve your goals you might have a chance to be president one day.

Then W Bush became president. Suddenly mothers had no leg to stand on saying you need to be smart. It’s like that old Tennessee saying, I know it’s it in Texas, probably in Tennessee too, fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice…shame on…uh…shame…can’t get fooled again!

And just like that, idiots can be president. Everybody thought the presidency reached the floor, and it couldn’t get any lower.

    Ah, innocent times…

We had had no idea that bedrock was the goal. Now you don’t even need to be a decent person to be president. We have those close to trump saying things like “empathy is a weakness”. And once again, it feels like the presidency can’t sink any lower. But we’ve felt that way before, so I’m afraid to think that way again. As they will continue to amaze and astound us with new innovative ways to descend our nation into dizzying new lows.

Honestly at this point, I’m 50/50 on the fence on whether or not total destruction is the plan, or if literally nobody has any idea what the plan is.

Maybe they only have concepts of a plan.

  • It’s the bible belt. Those people don’t think with their brains. Actually, they sometimes don’t think at all. Welcome to America! Where we tore down a beautiful land, full of lush trees, running rivers, breathtaking mountains, and sprawling deserts, in exchange for strip malls, churches, dry ravines, mountains of garbage (both figuratively and literally), and casinos.

You’re seeking morality from a nation who twice elected an open racist. Your expectations of this country are too high. We are trash. And I won’t change my opinion until society does better.
