Yeah, seriously. Thanks for sharing those clips, I hadn’t seen the video of Padilla yet, and now I’m thoroughly enraged.

Rein in the state from what, NYTimes??
You can’t put shit like that in your headline and then not elaborate on it at all in the article. Rein CA in from exercising its state sovereignty? Rein in the state’s desire to not suffocate its residents? Rein in the state’s ability to use its size and political strength to make the rest of the country slightly healthier?
What the fuck are we reining in, NYTimes, other than CA’s left-leaning tendencies?? FFS I’m sick of this newspaper.
Yeah it was disappointing that it ended, especially since they teased a next season that never came, if I’m remembering correctly. Still worth watching though.
Frankly, the thing that scares me the most is that you can hear the soldiers in the audience loudly booing at residents of LA on behalf of Trump, when prompted by Trump. That’s disgusting behavior, and should get them all reprimanded or discharged.
While I don’t necessarily have the default unchallenged respect/reverence for the military that most people do, at the very least I expect them to act professionally and respectfully in their own country (since we know that’s often way too much to ask when they’re sent abroad). Fuck any solider who openly acts on their political views, and fuck every soldier that doesn’t refuse an illegal order. You volunteered to do this, so you better do it right.
It must be pretty intimidating for these fools to have to contend with a sane, principled, Jewish, Mexican woman. They don’t like any of those attributes.
Flashforward from 2009. It’s based on a book which is also awesome, but the show really nailed it.
The cast is totally stacked with amazing talent, and the plot/concept is really unique and well-executed. Highly recommend.
I really tried to understand Newsom’s motivations for that, and I just can’t wrap my head around it. I have no problem engaging with the other side, but only when it’s in good faith or when you’re prepared and willing to push back against every single bullshit extremist thing they say. There is no good faith with a person like Kirk, and Newsom didn’t challenge him at all, so it was pretty obvious that he’s just courting right-wing extremists.
I have two of the same pair of glasses, one with normal clear prescription lenses, and the other with prescription lenses that are tinted brown and polarized. I often forget to switch them out because the sunglasses make everything look so damn good, but I carry them both with me and usually switch to my clear glasses if I’m indoors for more than a minute. But if I pop into a gas station or something for 30 seconds then I’m definitely not taking them off.
DNC chair Ken Martin said that the controversy surrounding Hogg “destroyed any chance I have to show the leadership that I need to.”
Uhh then I think he needs to look up the word “leadership” in a dictionary. Good leaders don’t usually blame their subordinates for their own deficiencies. Hogg isn’t doing anything that would prevent Martin from growing a backbone and actually leading the party.
Blaming Hogg for Martin’s shitty instincts is childish and transparently ineffective. I was always against Martin as chair, and he continues to make all the mistake we knew he would make.
I’ve found this is exactly the best way to enjoy Lemmy.
Gorgeous! Thanks for sharing this, it’s a beautiful painting.
Yeah! I remember really enjoying this, and being super pissed it didn’t get renewed.
Yeah, with all the bureaucratic loops to jump through, it’s basically impossible for states to get access to this money. It’s like a Rube Goldberg machine that keeps breaking every step of the way.
Jon Stewart probed the absurdity of the issue really well in an interview with Ezra Klein a couple months ago.
[it’s a] 14-step process states have to go through to even start building the rural broadband networks that were promised $42 billion in funding by the Biden administration (3 out of 56 states and territories are almost ready to start about four years later).
Thanks!
For sure. I’ve gotta assume they used the master film for scanning Monty Python, and if it was stored properly they probably wouldn’t have to do a ton of restoration and cleaning, but I don’t know the specifics. 4K77’s work is amazing and admirable, but not really watchable to me for exactly the reason you mentioned. I don’t think any amount of cleanup would fix that kind of degradation, though it’s still an incredible representation and artifact of the film’s history. It’s a shame that project was only necessary because of the Lucas’ stubbornness.
Yup, the Supreme Court doesn’t give two shits about us.
Write-up in Vox from 2023: The Supreme Court’s latest opinion means innocent people must remain in prison.
This release is “Native 4K.” As far as I understand it, Native 4K means it was produced from scans of the film negatives, not upscaled. These releases are usually the best possible quality with the crispest and most natural image. They might have needed to do some physical cleaning of the film, and they might have done some touch up’s here and there in post, but Native 4K is ideal, and what you want in a release like this.

Oh I know, I’ve been here for years despite the age of my account. I just migrated from lemm.ee
I tend not to like to name these types of extensions because more exposure puts them at risk, and they’re super easy to find anyway.
Or, and hear me out: just install a browser plugin and forget ads exist.
I hesitate to name extensions names, but I’ve literally never seen an ad on YouTube.
These companies don’t respect us, so I don’t feel the need to respect them by allowing them to force their meaningless bullshit down my throat.
I don’t use it that much, but you better believe if I go to YouTube to watch a video, that video is the only thing I’m watching.
And then stick it in a drawer and forget about it until the next day. Then re-read it with fresh eyes after a good night’s sleep.
Letting a full day pass before re-reading it should help give you confidence to decide if it’s the right thing to do or not.
