So what we have here is the Partial, unofficial and incomplete compendium of various versions of ASLWrite signs by MinMin

I titled this a risky proposition because this is kind of a under the table dictionary. Its not official, its not vetted, its really just one persons attempt to find all of the version so they had something to work off of and have temporarily made shareable after the ASLWrite group fb apocalypse.

Its long, disorganized and still incomplete. It could disappear at any moment if it has to be reverted to a personal document.

Take all signs with a grain of salt.

Your writing task, should you want it, is find one sign in the list of your choosing and see if you can replicated it.

A group for dropping writing prompts in ASLWrite. Since ASLWrite is only used by a small portion of signers, like really small, ASLWrite is still evolving and changing and doesn’t have a huge body of work. Because of this most people are beginners and the writing prompts will start out small. Very small. But hopefully people will start to evolve their skills.

Learning how to write “I” and “cat” could one day evolve into “I am a cat”,

which could one day evolve into:

“I have a cat. I am a bat.”

which could one day evolve into the poem:

""I’m a bat with a cat.

We write poetry with

a rat."

(hello enjambent. Wait…what would enjambent look like in written ASL??)

which could one day evolve into

“Day 343 of cat and I stuck living with rat. Though I am a bat I sometimes dine with them. Its tense, given that cats eat rats. I like rat. I like cat. But its really hard for a bat like me out here in the apocalypse”

(*But in ASL/PSE, because that is not how you would do all the words (word order, grammar etc). Thats why you gotta have a system to put ASL/SL down and get it how it is.)

==== The best place to get feedback on whether you’ve got new signs right is slwrite.org (great group there with an original founder and is where resources and dictionary entries will be sourced from, along with aslwrite.com and the paused facebook group; I’ll be writing the prompts or borrowing the prompts from the prompt master in the groups above, with their permission).

This group is to give prompts themselves to get the juices running with an underpinning of resources to give you the skills to try the prompts.

If you try a prompt you are under NO obligation to post what you tried. Its just good that you did. If you don’t know ASL or sign language its good to take a course, join the official group and use ASLWrite in addition to GLOSS to do your vocabulary words, take certain notes, and assignments (but I strongly recommend you join the other group to get official feedback on your attempts at writing signs that aren’t in the dictionary, and please don’t write in gloss in this group, this group is for the ASL/SL write written system).

Give me a few weeks or a month to get the group populated with instructional resources and then I will start with the prompts/dictionary entries.
