Al Ewing‘s script for Absolute Green Lantern #1 evokes the spirit of H.P. Lovecraft. There is more horror than awe to the weird power that seems to have chosen Hal Jordan. The general tone is far closer to a Junji Ito manga than E. E. “Doc” Smith’s space opera.

Sounds pretty much like the first Green Lantern comic that I’ll read. I love comics, but the GL never woke my interest.

I’ve been passing on most of the Absolute stuff, but Martian Manhunter was stellar, this looks promising as well.

I’m in a similar position - I may go back and read the books on the Trinity but it is Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern that have made me sit up and pay attention. Although I am trade-waiting both so it’ll be a bit before I get to read them.
